Internet connection problem

Postby H. Darkmoon on Wed Apr 15, 2009 10:57 pm

I recently made a speed test thanks to the speed test post, and noticed that my computer was running on 1/25 of my connection. 0.29Mbs instead 7.5Mbs. I am on a network with 3 computers hooked up to a router. 1 wireless and 2 wired. My computer is 1 of the 2 wired computers. My computer is the only 1 on the network with this problem.

I did the network setup on all computers and i can't figure out what is different on my computer. Is there a way that my router could limit my connection? My router is a linksys wireless. I could use any good tutorial about network connections and router setup. If you know a good one please let me know.

*I forgot to mention that i am running windows XP Pro*

1st, try to disable other computers and rerun the test again. it will show if the problem is in your PC or your network configuration.
routers divide traffic mostly random but they have some priorities. ie browsing through browser (http requests) goes faster and get prioritized, torrents and ftp go a bit slower.

if there is a problem in your router - try searching guides in google by the router model name.
if problem is in the PC - download some free malware scanner and check for hidden traffic viruses. might be the reason.

I did a few more tests. If the modem is connected directly to my computer its is still very slow. The problem really is on my computer. I have looked in my router settings and everything is at default settings without any kind of access restriction. Something very strange also is that speedtest.net scores 4 times higher on explorer than firefox... weird. I have deleted old network and remake a new one. Nothing changed. I give up. I can't find at all what is the problem so i will be formating and reinstalling erything from scratch. Thanks for the help Dako :)

hey guys, couldn't find a suitable Q and A topic on here about the problem I'm having, so this is the closest =/

I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but I started closed beta last Wednesday, and everything went smoothly, but thursday, I was playing and I suddenly got this message "Problem with the connection" I have about 12 MMO's on my comp, 6 of those are FPS's and never have I had a problem like that (I usually have around 20 -26 fps in heavy firefighting) so I'm guessing it's not really me, even though I know this is closed beta and there are bugs, it's now getting to the point where it happens every 2 matches or so, and I lose all VP/HP/and exp I gained during those matches =( Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue, and has either fixed it, or has a clue about what's up... was thinking it could be server lagg, but the same peeps are in the match when I reconnect.

BTW, everything on my Rig is up to date and working fine.

Thanks and Peace!

Ah, p.s. btw* if there is a thread topic for this, I apologize and hope it can be moved there o/

first of all, from my experience, BFH servers are very demanding to the internet speed and connection status.
what is the time you are playing? if you do that at evening or weekends - your ISP might just fail. mane people go to surf internet during that time - and your ping goes down (that is why you have server connection problems mostly). you can't see it while surfing or testing connections - but in game you can really feeel it.

next, if all the servers in your country are taken for the moment you join - you will be dropped to the oppoiste continent servers. one more thing that can lag you.

and last one ... it just BFH servers and network that lags so much.

You might having those problems because of your anti-virus software, that may not working properly. Have you consider changing it? If so I suggest you to use Kaspersky. I use it too and I'm very satisfied with it. Try it with trust!
